Giverny, le paradis de Monet

Breathing life into historical archives
through cinematic 3D projection.

FRANCE 2 (13h15)

For the French documentary series 13h15 on France 2, I was tasked with bringing historical archives to life. This segment explores Claude Monet’s life in Giverny, his world-famous house and the legendary gardens that inspired his ultimate masterpiece, The Water Lilies (Les Nymphéas).

To transcend the flat, static nature of the historical black-and-white portraits, I utilized advanced 3D projection mapping techniques to inject cinematic depth and subtle movement into the photographs.

The Technical Process

Using a human base mesh, I sculpted and customized precise 3D models in Blender to match the look of Monet. I then projected the original archival photos onto these digital models, creating a flawless sense of volume. The final sequences were composited in After Effects.
